Fantasy Football Review: Paramount+ brings family-friendly sports comedy to the small screen.

1 min read

Fantasy Football is a heart-warming movie that tells the story of a father and daughter who share a passion for football.  Bobby Coleman (Omari Hardwick) is a fading football star who’s just been traded to yet another team, the Atlanta Falcons, forcing his family — wife Keisha (Kelly Rowland) and daughter Callie (Marsai Martin) — to be uprooted from their previous home.

When an opportunity comes along, which would cause them to move yet again, Callie begs her parents to let her stay in Atlanta so that she can finally make some real friends and finish out high school.

One evening, during an argument over a video game, Callie and Bobby (and the game) are struck by lightning. Callie quickly realizes the event has infused the game with a special power, and through the use of video game technology, she can now control her dad’s movements on the field during pro games. Suddenly Bobby goes from the practice team to star player, and he’s thrilled with his newfound prowess and fame… but that comes at a price and Callie must make decisions against her own personal interests in deference to her dad’s career.

Now, althought the story takes a few predictable turns as Cally and Bobby navigate the ups and downs of their relationship, the chemistry between Martin and Hardwick is undeniable and their performances are both natural and fun to watch. The supporting cast is equally impressive, with each actor bringing a unique energy to the movie. The interplay between the various characters is both humorous and heartfelt, making for a well rounded and enjoyable experience and entertaining to watch.

Overall, Fantasy Football is a heartwarming family drama with plenty of sports action, that celebrates the power of family, friendship and teamwork as well as a father and daughter’s love for the game.

It’s a family movie that makes for perfect family night fun, so break out the popcorn, as it’s definitely worth a watch. Don’t miss out!
